While this may be the perception, it is not even close to reality. The Chamber supports giving local economic incentives to local businesses far more frequently than out-of-town businesses.
Over the past six years, your Chamber has supported only one out-of-town business that received local incentives. All of the other six companies that received local incentives were businesses that were already here and wanted to expand their facility and employment.
Local Companies Create Jobs
A national statistic that also holds true in our region shows that 80% of all new jobs created each year come from local companies in our own community.
Does that mean we won’t support recruiting out-of-town businesses? No. We work hard to find and recruit good companies to our community and will continue to do so, but our priority will always be helping local businesses expand and to support them in obtaining local and state economic incentives.
